If you are asked to come into the surgery for a face-to-face appointment, please ensure that you wear some kind of face mask. This does not have to be a surgical mask, a home made one or a scarf will be sufficient.
You can now book appointments and order repeat prescriptions ONLINE following the link above. You need to register with the surgery to use this system. Please complete the Online Access Application Form and hand it to the Receptionist in person. Please bring photo ID with you to verify your identity. Telephone lines are open from 08:00 and there should be appointments available for that day. It is recommended that you telephone or call at the reception after 08:00 on the day you wish to be seen.
There will be a number of pre-bookable appointment slots available on most days, but only up to one week ahead. Our nurses are available by appointment only.
Please note that if you book a telephone consultation appointment either via telephone or online with a GP or Advanced Nurse Practitioner you may not be rung back at the precise time of the appointment, but later or earlier that same morning/afternoon/evening. Also the call may come from a blocked number. Thank you.
There are occasions when patients need to be assessed by a doctor which might involve intimate examinations. This Practice is committed to putting patients at ease whenever possible, and if you wish a chaperone to be present during your examination please do not hesitate to ask the doctor. It may not be possible for such a chaperone to be provided immediately and you might have to return for the examination to be carried out at a mutually convenient time. Trust is important in the relationship between GP and patient and we would, at all times, wish you to feel able to ask for a chaperone, should you require it.
The doctors at The Ridgeway Surgery are offering additional appointments. These appointments are pre-bookable and in advance only. The times of these are Monday and Tuesday evenings from 18:30 onwards. The surgery door will NOT be open and patients who have already booked will have access to the building via the intercom situated on the right hand side of the main entrance door. We aim to keep these appointments are available for patients with work commitments or who find it difficult to attend during normal surgery hours.
Many problems can be dealt with over the telephone. Doctors or nurses will be happy to call you back as soon as possible after the end of morning surgery and our reception staff will give you an approximate time when you will be contacted.
In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many ailments and you may be seen more quickly.
If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.
On average the surgery has over 100 or more missed appointments each month, ie these patients did not contact the surgery in advance to cancel/change their appointment. The effects of these are:
* an increase in the waiting time for appointments
* frustration for both staff and patients
* a waste of resources
* a potential risk to the health of the patient
The surgery has therefore implemented a new policy whereby patients who repeatedly miss appointments in this way will be contacted and, if the problem continues, removed from the practice list.
Pharmacy First Minor Ailments Scheme
Do you get your prescriptions for free? If so then local pharmacies are now able to see and prescribe for patients with minor ailments to save you having to attend the surgery. See the attached patient leaflet for a list of the conditions that can be treated at your local pharmacy, both the Lloyds pharmacies are participating in this service. You don't need an appointment, just drop in and see them.
